I connected my PS3 using composite video and switch settings to component and then attach the component cables (after unplugging the composite because they share the same port on the console) and I run the test. All looks well except that I can't figure out how to actually SAVE the settings! Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

It should autimatically save the settings. It's doesn't need to access the hdd to save it. As soon as you plug in the settings it should be fine. Just try it again and see if it works.
It doesn't save it. I get stuck on the screen that asks me to test it. That works fine over the component cables, but it then reverts to the composite 480i. I would normally say that I am out of luck with my monior, except that the test does work at 1080i.

iks what are u actual trying to do bro
I'm trying to use the component cables at 1080i. With the composite cable plugged in I can select "Component", accept the settings, and then check all resolutions my monitor supports. That is where I should be able to either test (which works) or press X to save and move on to the audio portion of the set up. But pressing X only unchecks the resolution buttons (or rechecks them). Bottom line it never lets me move on to the next screen. I think I have a bug, but its running the latest update.
I managed finally to get HD over component to work through sheer trial and error, by switching cables back and forth at various points in the video setup process. I don't even know which steps I took, but finally it allowed me to save and move on to the audio setup. Since the component cable came with five jacks - two for stereo (!) - my next step is to connect the PS3 via optical to my receiver so I can get 5.1 instead of only stereo.
