View Full Version : sixaxis mods
Ascend_01 01-11-2007, 06:05 PM i was looking around for modding the ps3 and i came accross the sixaxis controller getting modded by the leds turning blue and it seems farely straight forward. im going to do this when i can get my hands on a cheap ps3 controller. im going to look on ebay and my ebgames for used ones and then try it out.http://www.gameguru.in/sony-playstation-3/2007/03/sixaxis-controller-modded-to-have-blue-leds/
Elusid 01-11-2007, 08:51 PM Yeah I saw that :) Here is a better tut of it though.

I want to do this but I JUST got my PS3 and the new comp that I want to build is going to cost nearly $7,000 so I need to have parents buy me **** for the next like year while I work and slooooooly get parts for that :P
super man 01-12-2007, 07:38 AM o man thats so cool with blue instead of red if i could do then i would but i dont want to mess up my controller cuz i only have one at the moment there sold out evety were else
G-Force 01-12-2007, 09:21 AM man forget both them I'd rather have black light...NOW that would be awesome plus I could get pink for my gf
Ascend_01 01-12-2007, 12:13 PM i would have the four red lights be all different than each other on one controller. then get white ps homebutton on another one and the rest like green.
Ascend_01 01-12-2007, 12:32 PM does anyone know what the size of the led has to be. besides 2.8v. im thinking T1 but im not sure.

It seems stupid to me to mess with a $40 controller to get blue lights.
super man 01-12-2007, 02:14 PM 40 $ !!!!!!!!! i just bought one ten minutes ago and it cosy 68$ like i know there good controllers but come on like 70 bucks thats a wast of money....but i still bought one
Ascend_01 01-12-2007, 02:42 PM im pretty crafty when it comes to this stuff, just never took apart a controller.
Elusid 01-12-2007, 06:35 PM man forget both them I'd rather have black light...NOW that would be awesome plus I could get pink for my gf
Lol you realize that black lights are purpleish and those wouldn't put off enough light to make anything glow unless you're 2" away from it :P Any ways, it's not stupid to break open a $40 controller if you are determined and know what the hell you're doing. I plan on doing this when I get more $$$ and another 4 controllers (I have 2) so yeah. That would take up my whole day :D
super man 01-12-2007, 07:12 PM are you serious how come every body elses controllers cost like 40-50$ when mine cost 70$
Ascend_01 01-12-2007, 07:31 PM honestly i dont know why yours was 70 bucks.
Elusid 01-12-2007, 08:02 PM Well if you live in a small community that might be why. Stores have the right to give products a price that they want so... Like where I live... if they actually sold any type of electronics, you could be it would be 70-100$ for a controller... Don't you just love living in an apartment in a ****ing ski town that just had a house go on the market for $125 Mill >_< ****ing rich bastards... Oh I don't have an opinion.. really.... O.o
curlfro 01-13-2007, 07:29 AM are you serious how come every body elses controllers cost like 40-50$ when mine cost 70$
Yeah, in my nearest Best Buy they're $39.99.
super man 01-13-2007, 08:21 AM i live in canada onterio in a no to small town ....i got mine at eb games for 68.99$ but im going to return it today and get one at wal-mart cuz i have a gift card for there and there like 7 bucks cheaper anyway :D
G-Force 01-13-2007, 12:33 PM Yea its preatty dum to open a controller if your a hobo.....like yall are fussing....i got money so i have enough to probilly get a bunch of controllers an all with a difrent color in them..plus idc if its purplish ill just get my cusion to rig it with a upgrade in charge..idk maybe 10v instead
super man 01-13-2007, 01:25 PM oh no i got the money but why spend 70 $ when you can pay like 40 $ thats all im sayin
Ascend_01 01-13-2007, 05:52 PM Yea its preatty dum to open a controller if your a hobo.....like yall are fussing....i got money so i have enough to probilly get a bunch of controllers an all with a difrent color in them..plus idc if its purplish ill just get my cusion to rig it with a upgrade in charge..idk maybe 10v instead
10v are you crazy. that would probably screw up the controller. unless you got a good transistor, but still i have my doubts.
Elusid 01-13-2007, 08:43 PM Lol adding 10V would just **** it up totally. Why would you do that any ways? It wouldn't give you any advantage... Well any ways, I can't wait to see what other mods ppl do to their controllers!
Ascend_01 02-07-2007, 02:23 PM what kind of led is it supposed to be? roundish or boxy?
curlfro 02-07-2007, 05:19 PM Lol adding 10V would just **** it up totally. Why would you do that any ways? It wouldn't give you any advantage... Well any ways, I can't wait to see what other mods ppl do to their controllers!
LOL Someone adds a rumble pack. :P
Elusid 02-07-2007, 05:51 PM Well you can use either as long as you can make it fit. I use the 5mm super bright blue ones oh and just a suggestion... if you need to dremel anything down (I had to do part of an LED on my first one because I had no clue what I was doing) don't let the part that you put the bit in touch the ribbon cable..... it will cut through and make your PS3 controller basically useless. Now I have a $50 one way boomerang... But luckly I have enough in my little piggybank in my room to get another one this weekend so I'll have 4 again :P
Ascend_01 02-07-2007, 05:55 PM ok where did you get your leds. they have some at mine but not superbright.
Elusid 02-07-2007, 06:39 PM Well IDK exactly where I got mine but a good place to get them is
http://www.lsdiodes.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index
if you are buying a few or
http://www.ledshoppe.com/
If you're going for large orders for cheap (500 5mm blue for 20$! hell I'm ordering those right now as I'm making this thread)
Ascend_01 02-07-2007, 06:45 PM nice they have tri colored leds...do you think that would work?
Elusid 02-07-2007, 06:56 PM No it wold only work if you have 3 other sources because one of those pins is the ground and the other 3 are the live connections. If you got an LED that only has 2 wires and had built in functions like color fading or strobing that would work.
Ascend_01 02-08-2007, 01:24 PM i see some of the leds and they say like 6000mcd or something whats that?
Elusid 02-08-2007, 05:53 PM That's how bright they are
Ascend_01 02-09-2007, 04:48 AM ok. man my digital electronics course really didn't help me that much.
Elusid 02-09-2007, 06:48 AM That's alright that's what random people on the internet are for :)
Ascend_01 03-26-2007, 06:00 AM man i think in my school they have like two digital electronic type classes, and i think i took the crummy one, it was only one semester though, man im gonna take the better one, and stay after school to do this.
Negasie 03-26-2007, 09:02 AM Yeah Im gonna break my controllers too because Red lights are evil i need blue!!! And then i can go spend $100 getting 2 new ones!!!
Honestly, how many of you have tried this and broken a controller by now? ;)
