Just think of it this way. All moving images are like a flip-book. The more pages (frames) moving in a fast succession, the more it gives the illusion of movement. This is the same with all games and movies, because they are all simply many still images playing in extreme succesion.

Now, Frame-rate is the rate of frame change. The PS3 can play maximum 60 FPS (Frames-per-Second), which means that in the cource of one second, 60 still images have been shown to you. This give the illusion of movement.

If a game or movie has a bad frame rate, you can see the individual frame changing, which gives it a slow, choppy look, and instead looks more like a fast moving slide show than anything else.

That help you out?

Yeah and to get more in depth into this topic, movies run at 24 frames per second (from now on FPS) and digital cameras usually do 30, 60, or 120 (depending on camera/mode) When we see digital video we think that it's not as good of quality as a movie when in fact, it's the other way around. Because a movie is at such a slow frame rate, moving objects are slightly blurred. Also with film you can only focus on one plane of view while on a digital recorder everything is in focus. My theory why we think that movies look better is because it only keeps some of the image in focus, the part that we should be paying attention to so it's less for us to process. (just my theory) While on the PS3 the max FPS might be 60 but on the computer there isn't a limit really. The better your hardware the faster your games will run. It also depends on your settings, a game will run MUCH faster if everything is set to as low as it goes and no AA but will look a lot worse ;)

Well that was my 2¢
