View Full Version : Backwards compatibility... how about foreign games?
Jetfire 03-02-2007, 09:50 PM I'm curious if you mod the ps3 can you play an import PS2 game? I'm a big fan of this anime/manga called berserk and they released a game that looks really kick ass however they never released an English version... I would hate to have to buy a ps2 and mod that just to play this game as opposed to just modding my PS3 if anyone knows or has an opinion plz comment. I really really really really wanna play this game. Thanx.
Negasie 03-02-2007, 10:02 PM get a ps2 and mod it. For 2 reasons.
1. You don't really wanna mod your PS3 and void the 1 year manufacturer's warranty do you? Given the track record for Sony consoles, the first batch of any machine are going to be problematic, and theres a decent chance that before a year has passed something will go wrong, and they'll fix it or replace it for free, and even pay all shipping costs.
2. You can get a used PS2 for like $75 or less on eBay nowadays.
Im sure there is a way to mod the PS3 to play imported games, whether or not its been discovered yet, i do not know, but im sure theres a way. But even if it had been discovered I wouldnt risk it on a 600 dollar machine, especially if its still under warranty.
Jetfire 03-02-2007, 10:08 PM yea i guess you're right but after the warranty i just may get it modded... i got my psp modded and tossed all my psx games on it. Just amazing what you can do.
Negasie 03-02-2007, 10:21 PM even after the warranty is over, you can still fk up and fry your PS3. thats what happened to my PS1 heh. Im sure you're better at that kinda stuff than me, but I wouldnt risk messing with a $600 dollar machine. Seriously, just get a PS2 and mod it. If there are PS3 games that arent released in the US that you wanna play, then mod your PS3. But if its only PS2 games, dont risk it man, its not worth it. Spend the extra cash on a PS2.
Jetfire 03-02-2007, 10:29 PM yea i understand when modding a system depending on the mod of course whether the chip has to be soldered to the mobo or not you gotta be careful. Soft mods are always the best way to go if possible since if anything happens you can always just flash the bios. But every system i've gotten I modded right away. my psx, xbox, gamecube, ps2, and my psp so far. it's unfortunate that my xbox, gamecube and ps2 were stolen.... aw well i wanna play the game badly enough i've just made a bid on ebay for a ps2 so....
Negasie 03-02-2007, 11:47 PM Yah thats the best call. if you care enough about this import game to want to mod your PS3, then you care enough to pay an extra few bucks for a PS2 to mod instead, at least in my opinion.
Oh and dont worry about this jackass, his IP will be blocked the next time the Master checks the forums.

lol who?...
Negasie 03-03-2007, 12:58 PM lol nevermind that, ps3_master is fast! some dude was spamming up the boards posting like 20 posts on a bunch of different threads, all in like 3 minutes, same post on each thread and a bunch of gibberish. But PS3_Master logged in at like 2am last night and handled him. Some people are so dumb
Jetfire 03-03-2007, 04:41 PM wow good job on the forums then cuz i didnt check back after too long i think. oh well i won my ps2 finally so now i just gotta wait for that and my game. cant wait
Justinian 03-25-2007, 10:14 PM i'm pretty sure the PS3 doesn't have any region codes for games only movies
Ascend_01 03-26-2007, 05:57 AM no it does look on the sided of the box. At least im pretty sure thats it.
Negasie 03-26-2007, 09:00 AM They do have region codes, hence all the legal nonsense a while back with that foreign website getting shut down by Sony for selling UK model PS3s to Europe from Asia before the Euro release.
Jetfire 03-28-2007, 09:00 AM i'm pretty sure the PS3 doesn't have any region codes for games only movies
yea but thats for PS3 games...
Negasie 03-28-2007, 10:44 AM Actually, now I believe Justinian is correct. It is my understanding that a Euro PS3 should be able to play PS3 games from anywhere, be it Europe, the States, Japan, etc. HOWEVER, Bluray movies are region coded. So a Euro PS3 will only play Euro Bluray discs.
