View Full Version : I think I'm going to the dark side...
Brainwashed 03-19-2006, 09:20 PM Well, for the last week or so, I've been seriously thinking about getting a 360. This was even more solidified when the PS3's launch in November was announced. I just really don't want to go the summer without much gaming...I mean, my PC is more or less outdated, and I haven't played my PS2 for nearly a year (however, I did make an attempt to breathe a little more life into it recently, when I rented the over-hyped Black).
I find the whole Xbox Live deal very enticing...since I am a big fan of online gaming. I've been reading a lot about Live, and it just sounds like a great set up.
Overall, I feel that in the long run, the PS3 will be the superior machine, but for now, I think the 360 will do nicely. It will give me a chance to play some nice 360-only games (Perfect Dark fan here) while I wait for the PS3, and do some awesome online gaming.
The reason I say "dark side" isn't because I'm a Sony fanboy (which I'm not), but it's because actually long before I even started console gaming, I was an Apple fanboy. Now I don't want this thread to turn into OS wars, but I've always been a big fan of Apple/Macintosh, while usually thinking of MS as the "evil empire"...this was only exemplified more so when the Xbox came out, and all of my friends got one, leaving me to be constantly defensive of my much loved PS2. So, even thinking about getting a 360 leaves an unpleasant taste in my mouth.
Anyways, for those who are in the same situation I am (ahem, AA7), what would you suggest I do? If I do go for a 360, what games would be deemed "essential"? I'm a bit tight on cash, so it'll probably only be a game or two. I'm already thinking that I'm going to need Perfect Dark Zero. So that's a given. Basically, I'm wanting games that are going to be great on Live, since that's a huge reason I'm getting a 360.
Aside from that, are there any accessories I'm going to need? I figure at least one more controller is a must-have. And as a side question: Does anyone know if old Xbox controllers work?
Thanks for reading and/or answering...

Hey, I really think you should go for the 360. I am absolutly loving mine. The games are great, the features are great and the online is ..............un-be-frigin-leavable. Seriously if you want amazing online stop reading this right now and go buy a 360. To awnser some of your other questions: No you cannot use old Xbox controlers. If you want GREAT online you need to get: Perfect Dark Zero, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and Dead Or Alive 4. One more controler would also be a good idea, the new Mad Catz one is just as good as the Official Xbox 360 one and 15 bucks cheaper. I totally encourage you to go for the 360. I know you will love it. (unless you are mental)
reticulator 03-20-2006, 07:38 PM NOOOO!! Resist, dont go down the path of the dark side. Patience is a virtue, waiting a year for 3 cookies is better than getting a few crumbs today :).

I second that. Most of the anticipated games are beginning to drop. I still haven't had my chance to play GRAW, but I hear it's worth the purchase. My friend tried buying it yesterday and it was sold out everwhere we went. Aside from that, Oblivion is set to be on store shelves today. Plus, the new Xbox Live is everything and then some of what I imagined it to be. You'll definitely get use to being a Sith. :P
Brainwashed 03-22-2006, 09:12 AM Ok, well I already wrangled PDZ off of ebay for $26, but I haven't gotten the console yet. I live in a small town, where the only place I could possibly get a 360 would be at the local Walmart, which has about 2 cores a week come in...which are gone in about 30 minutes. I've been looking all over online, and it's looking really sketchy. My plan is to get a premium out of town (going up Saturday for a concert, figure I'll get up there earlier to look). I'm just afraid that I won't be able to find one anywhere.

Brainwashed 04-01-2006, 01:08 PM Ok, well I got my 360 last week (I got lucky and nabbed one in-town). Wow! I do not regret getting one for even a second. I got Perfect Dark Zero, and GRAW. I had family in town, but I played a lot of the co-op on PDZ with my cousin...that was so much fun. And I've been playing on Live a lot...sheesh, it's just a blast. I've been hearing a lot of people slamming the 360, saying the graphics aren't really next-gen...well, I'd say I'd have to disagree.
In case anyone here wants to play some Live with me, my tag is Brainwashed97.
temporal_zulu 04-01-2006, 03:31 PM damn you all for turning to the dark side! ..... have they come down in price yet? I might get one too :D
lilninja 07-21-2006, 03:33 AM I have a 360 and its not the dark side.
First off its nearly as good as ps3. It has great graphics and everything if you want a taste of next-gen before the ps3 comes out get it.
Oh and the 360 will have a few games that are released on the ps3.
Oh and the price hasn't gone down but you could get one off a japanese site for cheap because theres hardly anyone buying them there.

Is the 360 like the PS2, where you can't play American games on it if it was made in Japan?

sorry for deviating from the topic but I was wondering were those japanese sites are on the internet?
as for the ps3 its more comparable to wii from nintendo, looks ridiculus playing it though but never tried.
360 is perhaps the more sleeker looking, gosh I hate the ps3's design it looks like a piece of scrap. but 360 is the next gen or year for that matter but not as powerfull to ps3 nor wii. and plus it M$ what does gate want more to make smart cards that could zap you brain into the game
chrisybear_313 09-01-2006, 05:43 PM :D I know the price is cheaper in Japan because We want Playstation!
I heard that when it was first introduce it was way more expensive in japan then when it will be introduced in the states
lilninja 10-25-2006, 06:55 AM Are you talking about the ps3 or the 360?
yokofox33 10-26-2006, 06:48 PM I think the 360 is worth it. I truly enjoy the system and the games. COD2 is one the best games I've played, and with Gears of War and COD3 coming up, it might be a good idea to seriously consider getting one. It's a good console for sure. But the PS3 and Wii will be as well...
PlantPage55 10-28-2006, 02:20 PM I think if you are a true gamer there is no dark side...you're like...Boba Fett, you'll work for whoever is paying you...
but, they aren't paying you...you're paying them...but...
maybe it's not the best analogy, but basically Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo...it's ALL good.
FATAL VISI0N 10-28-2006, 04:33 PM I have to say if you love online gaming the 360, is pretty awesome, who knows maybe later on don the road you can get both, but what games? you ask. Gears of War!!! is going to be a must have. Other online games, CoD3, GRAW with new maps and gear being available on Live in the next few months.
It's a tuff decision!!
babygirl16_2006 11-09-2006, 11:56 AM hey get a 360 those things rock! :p
PlantPage55 11-11-2006, 04:56 PM Here, here!
If I don't get all of the consoles relatively soon, I'll feel like I'll get behind and miss out on some fun
