Does anyone have more info on the PsP phone?
All I can find is that weird looking prototype thing that holds the PsP sideways.

It’s official: the PSP is becoming a phone if, for no other reason, than to piss Apple off and screw with the iPhone launch.

The PSP has found itself in no man’s land in recent times, with shrinking UMD movie sales and long overdue price cuts to keep it selling. We all know something had to be done and boy, has Sony gone and done it. In a deal with BT, the PSP is about to become a phone, Net browser and video comms device.

The four-year deal – which covers 102 Sony territories mainly in EMEA and Oceania - will see BT and Sony work to pimp the PSP from portable entertainment device to portable communications and entertainment device. There are 8 million PSPs in EMEA. Video calls, voice calls, wireless broadband Net surfing, messaging – it’s all on the way and the UK is getting it first.

That said, no date has been given for any of these things so maybe it’s not going to spoil the iPhone’s day in the sun after all.-Martin Lynch

Nowadays everything seems to be converging into a mobile phone. It already can be a perfectly good digital camera (e.g. SE K850i Cybershot), a mobile TV station a music player or GPS receiver. One of the things missing here was a mobile gaming platform. But it’s coming too.

And who’s better positioned to create a perfect mobile gaming platform then Sony? It already has one - Sony PSP. It also makes some great mobile phones via joint venture with Swedish Ericsson.

Their recent patent filing shows how Sony Ericsson will go about integrating these two gadgets:

The main question Sony Ericsson asked when designing PSP phone was - what is the main problem with using your phone for mobile games?

And the answer was - gaming controls.The numeric keypad is just not good enough to control the action in games. But who says all the keys on the numeric keypad have to be identical?

Sony has already designed very good game controls on PSP. So now they just made a few keys on numeric keypad into a game controls and the problem was solved.

The other problem was that most of the good games are played holding PSP console with both hands and using two thumbs to control game characters. And the phone is operated usually with a single hand and thumb.

Rotating screen came to the rescue here. When the device is in a phone mode, all you have is a simple mobile phone with numeric keypad , menu and function keys. Turn the screen around 180 degrees, your menu/functional keys are transformed into game controls and you have a perfectly good portable gaming device.

Oh and why not use the screen turned 90 degrees to make this device into a mobile TV station as well?

The beauty of it all is that Sony will not have to worry about the games for the PSP phone. Just make it compatible with the standard PSP games and Nokia will have a really tough time catching up with it’s next gen N-Gage platform.

It look's to complex to play. Look at the button config it would be like playing games on your treo.

By now you've seen our photos of the PlayStation Phone, and likely you've also heard the scattered reports of debunkings and cries of "fake!" -- it wouldn't be a scoop without it. Only here's the thing: the PlayStation Phone in the photos we ran last night, and the device reported on back in August is most definitely real. We're not saying that because we want to believe or because we're gingerly trying to nab pageviews: we're saying it because we know it to be true. This is a device which has been confirmed through multiple, trusted sources. And we're not just talking good tipsters -- some of our information comes from people much more closely connected to the project. Even since last night we've received more info about the phone -- learning that its codename is "Zeus," and it was last seen running Android 2.X (not 3.0, which we suspect will be the shipping version). It should be obvious by comparison of our original mockup to the real photos we've just uncovered that the handset we described in August is the same handset now fully revealed. Prior to last night, we had never seen an actual image of the phone. It should also be obvious that the device pictured in those photos is a prototype running early software (which would explain the A / B button mention in the photo above) with hardware that was likely hand-built, or at the very least created in a very small batch.

Well the code name of the psp phone is the "psp vita", which is ironic cause alot of people are mistaking the ps4 which will not come out for another 5 or 6 more years as the ps vita. But infact the ps vita is the code name used for the transfer of all psp game, save data and or throphy to the psp vita through wifi and psn account.

Psp vita will be for sell in all gamestop as of december. But you can pre order for $300. The phone is a ericson with i do believe android OS. I might be mestaken.
