Does anyone here care if the PS3 is capable of online multiplayer? I have X-Box as well, and dont even use the X-Box live service. If I wanted to play online games, I would use my PC. And best yet, thats free!

Would anyone else pay tp use the online feature?

As someone who used to be a PC gamer I never believed that I should have to pay again to play games that I have already bought.

What pisses me off about Xbox Live is that it makes the xbox host every game, and only serves as a matchmaking middle-man. The service also seems to enjoy making the fastest connection the host automatically (which is my college T1 connection). Since my I have a daily upload limit, my bandwidth gets maxed out after a while from constantly hosting Halo games for smartassed 15year olds mouth pieces.

With Live you're paying Microsoft for access permission to use your own xbox to play games. Tell me how that is fair? That's why I chipped in with some friends to buy a Live subscription

Free online play is one of the reasons why I'm picking up a Revolution when it comes out. I think Sony will have a good edge with their online service following the PC model- mostly free, with a few games (like MMORPGs) charging a small fee for play. Live is more or less idiot-proof, but the PS3 should give you much more control over your online gaming experience.

If it doesnt come with an online service its nothing more the a regular gaming console. Sure most consoles today are coming out with online services, but if you dont offer it your left in the stone ages. How many people have bought a PC game, and not played it online?

I guarentee they will have an online service. They wont be able to compte with the Xbox 360 if they don't. Releasing a console today without an online service is like selling Pentium II today as new technology.

some people don't want to spend money upgrading their PC when they have a console that looks just as good. also, no ones gunna play online with their PC if the graphics card sucks.

i love that online stuff. its great they want to do it. i have it for ps2 but i mostly only used it for the first couple weeks i had it.for some reason i just like playing game modes and AI better. however online is hella fun and is for sure a great thing. especially with the whole new system and upgraded graphics and well everything else it should definatly take online to a new level.

I like that the basic service is gonna be free of charge. But unlike 360 where you cant play online just look around, the ps3 online is gonna be playable for free.

Ehh I don't know about that. To be honest, from what I've heard and read, it's going to be pretty much the same as Live in that respect. But I guess we'll have to wait and see for more details. Hopefully we'll get some more on the 22nd.

A good free online service is one of those things that really attract me to the PS3 and look at the 360 with more discontent. Iv have been wanting to go onto xbox- live for a while but It just wasnt worth having to pay just so I could play halo every once in a while. If Sony can make their online service as good as Microsofts and keep it free then maybe they can dominate them online if they can manage to get some good online games. I Ps3 can get hold of halo then they may be able to dominate online gaming. Mabye even force M$ to lowere their own prices.

Sony can't get Halo – Microsoft owns Bungie *to think that Sony could get Halo for the PS3 is… well, amusing, to say the least. But if the online component of the PS3 allows free playing no matter what, then it's quite compelling for me. I have Xbox Live, and it's sweet (and cheap) but free ain't bad either.

However, when I think 'free,' I also remember "You get what you pay for."
