G'day guys,

I'm planning on purchasing a PS3 soon enough and the plan is to either buy a pre-modded one (can you do this?) or mod one myself so as to facilitate the playing of N64 (Nintendo 64) games via the hard drive. I'm not 100% sure of the possibility of this, but I know a few mates with XBox (original, not 360) with every 64 game playable via the hard drive - so I'm pretty sure it can be done on the PS3 hard drive.

Is this as simple as running a N64 emulator on a PC? I've got the games and Project64 to run them right here - I'm just interested in moving them to the PS3 once I obtain one.

PS: In fact, would this even require modding?

Thats a good question. I havent even looking into loading Wii games on the PS3. Mind you, I've been out of the loop for a while now.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

I've been researching a bit via Google search and have discovered that my mates with N64 emulators on XBox most likely use something like this (http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/modules.php?name=Xbox_Homebrew&op=view&gid=53). I'm sure you guys realised this but I'm absolutely new to the idea.

Anyone have any guestimates as to when a similar one will be produced for PS3?

@ PS3_Master: I know that the PS3 will definitely be capable of running a 64 emulator (since the bog standard XBox can), but do you think it'd be up to running a same-generation emulator such as the Wii? If so, that'd be awesome (although perhaps a bit ***bersome as the Wii is kind of freakin' different to the PS3 in terms of controller input). Hell, I'd be very happy just to get a N64 emulator running and stoked to get a Gamecube or XBox one going!

I'm sure the PS3 will can do it. I've personaly not looked into it myself (Not much of a console hacker if ya know what I meant). That being said - the PS3 is nothing more then a computer in a box. Running an emulator on it is possible. There are a number of them floating around which will play pervious generations game's on Linux. All you need to do it get linux up and running on your PS3, fire up an emulator and away you go.

The Wii will be a bit hard I think because those games werent designed to be run on the Cell Processor. You would need to find an emulator that can make up for this downfall (Which in my opinion would be extremly difficult to do).

Should you come across one, let me know!
