So I have Unreal Tournament 3 for PS3 but would like to mod using the pc modding tools. Is it possible to install linux and thereafter the UT3 mod kits so that i'd be able to mod and then play them? this may seem like a noob question but i would really like ot know if it is a possibility at all.

If the mod tools were made for PC, then no as Linux cannot run PC software without running Windows through WINE (Wine allows Linux to run Windows).

On the other hand, when you run UT on your PC, the game is installed on your hard drive. When you run it on your PS3, its run off of the blu-ray disk and the information it needs is stored temporaraly on you PS3's HD and system memory. When your done playing the game the files are reased and cleared from your system memory. Modding the PS3 version would be inefective as there are no files on your PS3 to mod.

Sorry to disapoint you, but your efforts are rather pointless at this time.
