http://www.ps3court.com/images/blu_ray_disk.gifThe first writeable and re writeable Blu-Ray disks are set to hit store shelves within a matter of weeks now. TDK announced the shipment will contain cartridge free disks in sizes of 25 and 50 GB.
“TDK claims there is no performance degradation after rewriting data 10,000 times, and the DURABIS hard coating grants each disc an archival life of 50 years through increased scratch, fingerprint, and light resistance. Nice for protecting your PS3 games, and Blu-ray's longevity and ability to back up entire hard drives in a single bound seem appealing.”
The price of Blu-Ray disks is not going to be cheap for the first few years. The current retail cost of a 25 GB disk will be around $19.99. The 100GB disk will retail for roughly $59.99, placing the cost out of reach for the everyday user for anything other then system back ups.
The cost of Blu-Ray Writers has yet to be confirmed.
