At E3 they made no mention of linux though sony has already said linux would come pre-packed on the HDD. Do you guy's think the linux pre-loaded will be a full OS or just a linux kernal?

Also I noticed the web browser was shown at E3 does anyone know if it was running under linux or just the ps3 interface?

I'm not sure waht a Kernal is but i beleive so yes because no u wont get the OS

u will jsut be able to have the OS and are'nt Linux OS's free anyway, i searched up on Wikipeida and thats waht it said and howcome hardly anyone uses Linux

Hmm I don't know i've heard it will be a full blown linux OS and not just a Kernal. It's a little hard to say since sony hasn't mentioned much about it and you are correct linux is free, but the main reason linux hasn't caught on is due to not having as much support as windows and linux doesn't have nearly the applacations windows does due to linux not being widely supported.

Maybe, but maybe not. Your normal linux may not work well with the ps3's cell architecture so sony will code a version that will work well on the ps3 and include it on the HDD so it will have a PC type OS on the ps3... I'm sure it could be modded or hacked though since even the xbox has a way to run linux...

This is ofcourse assuming sony does release it with linux. I'm not sure since it wasn't mentioned once a E3 2006.

i think it will be the full OS. and its a smart move linux is such a stable OS ps3 is really gonna need that especially now that they are delving into the online part.
