http://www.ps3court.com/images/ken.jpgOnce again, Sony’s Ken Kutaragi has gone on the defense for the PS3 in an effort to defend its hefty price tag. The console has seen a lot of flack due to its price and in this months issue of Famitsu, a Japanese gaming magazine, Mr. Kutaragi has stood up for his creation.
As some may remember, Mr. Kutaragi defended the price off the consoles price just after E3. In this round he stated "If you consider the PlayStation 3 a toy, then yes, it is an expensive toy. However, it is more than a toy. It is a PlayStation 3. And it is the only PlayStation 3. I hope that those who understand this will gladly purchase it".
Sony has been plagued with complaints over the consoles price of $499 for the basic console, and $599 for the fully loaded. With other consoles selling at under half the price, the PlayStation 3 will be the most expensive console this generation.
In the past, the PlayStation has launched at a higher price then others and went on to dominate the market. The same can be said for the PlayStation 2, which shattered records with its sales number only a year after.
The thing to remember as Ken Mutaragi points out, is that the PS3 is not just a gaming console. It’s a multimedia unit with the ability to do more then just play games. The PS3 will be the only console available on the Market with the ability to play high definition video (Blu-Ray) out of the box. Lets also not forget it wasn’t too long ago that Microsoft took a stab at Sony’s up coming console’s price. After all is said and done, in order to play HD-DVD movies on the 360, plan on spending an additional $149 - $199 for the adapter. This will bring the 360 in line with the PS3 price wise.
