Hi, I noticed the ps3 "slim" got support for HDMI-CEC(bravia sync). and i wondered if it would be possible to mod it so the "fat" version could do it too?
would be wonderful if it was only the connector that neded to be replaced but i assume a replace of a HDMI controller needs fixing too if even possbile, im not a pro ^^.

thanks in advance

*Edit*
after checking the net abit it seems the ps3 "fat" has hdmi 1.3a, which according to wikipedia(sorry :D) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-Definition_Multimedia_Interface
should offer HDMI-CEC support. Now my question now is. isnt there a firmware update for ps3 "fat" or am i doing something wrong? :D

*Edit 2*
And there the light at the end of the tunnel.. *BAM* tunnel collapse ^^.
further readings told me that sony sadly enough desided not to hardware implement the CEC controller, due to being optional in HDMI 1.3a standard. Which brings me back to can I mod my ps3 40gb "fat" with a CEC controller ?
Im excited to try but i need some pointers, if i wreck my ps3 ill prolly just buy a slim. but i like try :D

*Edit 3*
I found that the ps3 "fat" models all have the SIL9132 hdmi controller with hdmi-cec disabled. and that the ps3 "slim" have the Panasonic MN8647091 hdmi controller which supports the hdmi-cec. I havent had any luck finding any data on these chips, regarding size and pins and so forth. It might just be my lack of surfing the net-skills but maybe you can help me out here.

But the interesting questions would be:
-Will changing the chip would be enough?
-Does the port needs changing too?
-Will the firmware prevent the functioning of this mod in the first place?

As of what i read the limitations should be hardware, but wether they limited the firmware to fatties i dont know :D

I can report that HDMI-CEC on my PS3-Slim on 3.55 controlled by a Toshiba TV (46wx800) over the Regza-Link has these features:

(1) Turning PS3 on/off
(2) Scrolling across and selecting from front-end GUI (XMB) using left, right, up, and down arrow keys, as well as OK as an option for [X] and exit as an option for [O]. Have not found anything that works for the SQUARE and TRIANGLE buttons.
(3) The arrow keys work to pause, rewind, fast-forward and play movies.
(3) The arrow keys do not work for any games.

I hope that helps somebody out there.
