http://www.ps3court.com/images/ps3_controller.jpgUnconfirmed industry sources have released the name of Sony’s upcoming PS3 online service, PlayStation Hub. The service is expected to offer PlayStation 3 owners similar services to those currently available to X-Box Live subscribers. This includes Chat capabilities, downloadable demos, independent games and online play. The PlayStation Hub has also been designed to support Sony’s PSP Handheld.
Along with online game play, Sony boss Howard Stringer is attempting to push for all types of media content to be distributed over the PlayStation Hub network. In doing so Sony would be creating an iTunes like service for its subscribers offering Movies and Music. This service will most likely be available for an additional monthly fee
Contrary to previous reports of a “Free Online Service”, PlayStation Hub is being reported to be a “Subscriber Service” suggesting there will be a monthly fee involved. The reported designers of the service, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe have not yet confirmed the authenticity of the statement.
Sources close to Sony are suggesting the PlayStation 3 is scheduled to be available for retail sale by September 2006. Not yet made clear is weather this is a Hardware launch date, a games launch date, or which territory was schedule to be launched on these dates. In our opinion, Japan and North America will consoles and games on the selves before other countries.
