http://www.ps3court.com/images/ps3.gifWith yet another day, comes another prediction on the PS3’s price tag. You may recall a few weeks back we made a post on CNN's cost prediction (http://www.ps3court.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36) of the PlayStation - $500.00. That was pretty high, yes I have to admit I was getting a bit scared, even had second thoughts on weather we should run our PS3 Giveaway. Now, I’m really scared!

You may be thinking, just how high can the price go? Well, the fine folks at an investment firm - Merrill Lynch have broken down the manufacturing cost of each unit, giving us what they think is an accurate prediction of the manufacturing cost.. The results may startle you – or they may just make you laugh.

“A team over at the investment firm Merrill Lynch took the liberty of breaking down the component costs of the PlayStation 3, concluding that the PS3 will cost Sony $900 per unit at launch. The figures which are based upon estimates and predictions, show that the lion's share of the parts costs come from the Cell processor and Blu-Ray drive, which total $580 alone. Fortunately for Sony, the firm has also estimated that the console's cost after 3 years could drop to $320.”

The fine folks at Merrill Lynch have even been kind enough to give us a break down on each components cost.

If you think back to the pre X-Box 360 launch, there were many cost predictions floating around from reputable sources. Not quite as high as $900, but upwards of $800. When the 360 hit the streets, the retail tag was between $399 and $499 which is far from the predictions. If Sony wants to retain its loyal console gamers, they had better find a way to lower prices should this prediction be correct. In our opinion, the price of the PS3 will not be $800 - $900. That would just be too high. That being said, if Sony wants to continue selling the PS2 then they might just be dead on with their pricing.

Now, if the PS3 price tag DOES hit $800 - $900 per console, we have prepared a list of things to do while waiting the three years for the price to drop.

im sure that the PS3 will not be much more than $500. If you buy 200 million units of each component used in the PS3's construction, you'll get a price break.

don't get to worried, this is the cost to make the ps3. sony will most likely sell it for less money, cuz they'll make a profit from it if enough people buy it.

Actually, the more people that buy it the more money Sony will lose. Lest all just face it guys, it will be $600+.
