View Full Version : [WORK LOG] Cyberskull with working thermal reader
Pepito01226 05-03-2011, 11:34 PM Im new to this forum and would love to drop my work log
First let me say the ps3 i own is new and never been unwraped. I only owned it for 3 weeks already.
I am a modder and watching my new ps3 being all stock is boring.
Worst off is knowtisting No one really modded there ps3 consule other then the ocasional LED here and there :/
Sad
So i am doing this thread worklog to show case that working on a ps3 case mod isnt so hard and give other modder idea :)
this is also going to me my worklog thread.
Ok right!
Let me start off with what material i will be using
~First the skull being made from foam was purched at a local dallor store for less then $3, it is lastyear remaining helloween prop.
~The cybernettic parts that will be placed over the skull are broken and discarded pc mobo, phone pcb, printer, network pcb, etc.. ((None of this produces are useful as they are either burned out or to old to function for anything))
~I will be useing bondo and epoxy to bond and blend the skull to the upper shell of the ps3
~I also order a thermal digital temp. guage from ebay which will soon arrive.
~My all around trusty dremel tool, mini model file, sandpaper and ofcourse spray paint.
Maybe's
~washer, nuts, helloween vamipre teeth, supper glue, fish tank air tube (1/8)
COST!
As of right now (5/19/2011) only $23 total
WORK LOG
Okie so i started with this skull (Please excuse the crappy blurry image, i lost my sony and was forced to use my father old kodak camera)
http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/1020/1026082.jpg
If you knowtist I drew some cut guiding line;s that sub divided the skull.
http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/2531/1026083.jpg
Once i had my cut i then split it apart using the ruler and alittle soft force.
http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/263/1026088.jpg
After cutting more material
http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/5482/1026092.jpg
Ithink the skull posion is to high. I will adjust before starting my mod
http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/4980/1026094.jpg
The digital temp guage. This guage is for PC and will either run on 5v or 12v not sure. (This digital temp reader can show temp in celcius or in fahrenheit)
http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/773/kgrhqzg4e2eq7sdtnbnthhj.jpg
More images to come with update. As for now I wait for the digital thermal temp guage to arrive in the mail
Okie, so an update..
Saddly Its going slower then i would have planned. This is all due to bestbuy: geeksquad poor service habits, I do not work for them but i am in contract and am picking up there dead slacks. Not really complaining cause i get payied top $100 for every computer i service for them. Not saying ALL bestbuy geeksquads have poor servicing.. But the one i live near seems to hirer dead heads who dont know a sata connection to Firewire :/ sad really.
I plan on incorperating the PS logo from an old ps3 controller that is no longer in service. The PS logo will be light activated. Not sure if i want to make it Network activated, Disc drive activated, Hdd activated or just simple Power on activated :/ Alot to choose from
http://img580.imageshack.us/img580/6420/1026105.jpg
Yes I will incorperate more components to the skull. I plan on spray painting the skull and part of the shell in silver. I would love to find nickel instead since that will leave a very nice mirror base for my color chromium. Ill just have to see what silver will look like once done bonding the skull and incorperating other feature to the shell.
Oh btw if you look closely there are acouple things incorperated with it, including parts from an XBOX360 and a DSlite :)
More updates will arrive as soon as i finish with bestbuy clients...
Okie so i took today sort of off to work more on my project also to hang with my mate at the beach and have a bush fire
More image update
Okie with my trusty dremel tool i went ahead and grinded the thumbstick stick. this left a perfict size hole for the PS home botton to sit inside.
http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/7148/1026109.jpg
Foam though its very messy is the easiest to cut. I deside i will drop two LED: One for each eye. I still dont know if i should have them light activate or just on when power is on. I wanted to use tri color RGB with 3 anode/1cathode so i can use all three connection one to each representive connection.
http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/4816/1026110.jpg
Okie so its been acouple of weeks, work is kicking my butt, so there isnt much to report
I finally got my digital temp. guage in the mail, very nice looking also very small
http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/2527/1006143b.jpg
I also went ahead and bought acouple things including airtube for a fish tank, super gel glue, epoxy and ofcourse new safety glasses *A MUST*
http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/8661/1006142.jpg
http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/1343/1006144z.jpg
http://img580.imageshack.us/img580/1411/1006145.jpg
Im also going to use this crafting glue i got at walmart, ive been using it for quiet sometime lol if you knowtist. It holds very well. its a rubized type glue that bonds well to alot of things. :)
http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/5045/1006146.jpg
One final note before i leave. I am going to redesign my skull.. I do like the factor of reusing old electronic parts but i do not think i will be using alot of them on this project. I will be using the pshome botton eye but i will be using alot more bondo. to make the parts. This is an ongoing project and have not forgotten about this site or my duties to update my work logs. This is the only site i will post till i am finished then i will be spreading my work around and submitting it to D.A. as a art log :)
Ok so i have a day off today. I hate how my job makes me take a day off on a day before the end of the week. But I can not complain, it will have to do. I deside to take my ps3 apart and look under the "hood" lol
http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/4295/1006148.jpg
http://img863.imageshack.us/img863/6079/1006149k.jpg
http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/8532/1006150b.jpg
http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/526/1006151w.jpg
there a few shoots that i need help with. One of them is knowing where i can tap for a 5v or 12v link and ground.
Ive seen a few forums with two image of this connection line, I do not know which one i should tap so i can provide myself with the proper voltage
http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/6328/1006154.jpg
Better view
http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/827/1006171d.jpg
Or
Since this lines connect to the ps3 powersupply and the other connects to the blueray and gamedrive powerconnection im wondering if i can also tap this connection to drop it some lights.
http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/1159/1006155.jpg
And speaking of lights.
I plan on swaping out this 3086 SMD *surface mounted diode* (No plan on what color i will swap them out to.) There is a seller on ebay that sells 25/50/100/200 set of SMD In verious different color even mixed of 3~6 of different color for around $10 to $30. I will see what i need or want :)
http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/9916/1006170f.jpg
More images will be posted on the next :) only 30 image a entry
PS3_Master 05-18-2011, 08:27 PM This is ONE HELL of an awesome mod. I'm impressed! Please keep us posted on this!
Pepito01226 05-19-2011, 08:16 AM Thank you ps3_master :) this mod is getting tricky hahaha bondo doesnt flex so i have to makesure where i postition the skull it doesnt get hit or topple over so i dont end up damaging the case.
Im hoping others will begin with case modding there. Its not so difficult but it is time consumming and time i do not have cause of work lol.
To the reader and watchers of this thread. Dont be afraid to getting creative and dirty with your work. It doesnt cost alot, even ebay offer replacement parts for near or less then $20 So dont worry if you mess up. Be inspired to be creative with you ps3. Simple controller mods are cool. but. Are limited cause they offer no cool potential. I added a thermal digital reader cause its functional and cool. Dont be afraid to take your ps3 apart. take your time and learn from what you see. Think and question, thats what modding is all about. Its turning the what if, what can and how coool to It is and just do and already did.
Pepito01226 05-19-2011, 11:37 AM Thank you ps3_master for the fix.
Here is the next couple of updates
:)
I went ahead and sort of maped out where i might place the thermal dip for the tempiture sensor. I worked on alot of xbox360 and always wanted to tap for a thermal tempiture gauge for the GPU/CPU
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/2595/1006157s.jpg
http://img863.imageshack.us/img863/8301/1006158.jpg
http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/165/1006159v.jpg
The temp dip actually fits perfictly underneath the blueray drive.
http://img121.imageshack.us/img121/1954/1006160g.jpg
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/9510/1006161l.jpg
Since this mini temp digital guage is for PC i can still snip off the ends and find my points to tap and power on the temp digtial guage.
http://img857.imageshack.us/img857/860/1006163.jpg
As you can see the line for the temp sensor and the power has a good fit
http://img560.imageshack.us/img560/1397/1006165.jpg
http://img692.imageshack.us/img692/7426/1006166i.jpg
Since my version of the ps3 is a 80gb 3rd gen this do not come with media reader :/ which sucks but its fine i can get around that and really dont need it ... yet lol
I am messuring out the viable space using my hand and stubby little fingers lol
for every section of my finger there is 1inch. so here its 3 to 4 inch wide
http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/7716/1006167l.jpg
here its 5 to 6 inch long *space*
http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/530/1006168i.jpg
I have a list of things including still to mount the skull, drill several holes drop in the tubes and get lights running before finishing up the skull, case it in bondo and shape the effects and finally paint XD LOL
there will be planty of more work to come.
I will be doing this as an ongoing mission XD
Okie this isnt much of an update but it is something..
I spent my weekend with friends but always on my laptop searching for schematic on the power supply for the PS3.
Well with much no luck i found a 555 PWM fan mod with pot controll. What i found is fan TAP
http://img845.imageshack.us/img845/1214/1006171fanconnection.jpg
RED - 12v
BLACK - Ground
GRAY - PWM *Flux voltage from 3v~12v
Atleast from this i know i have a 12volt and ground tap... I need a max of 5volt. So i have to search futher for my 3 to 5volt connection :) Slowly but surely I am finding what i need
Next on my project list is to create my digital temp cut hole. I was originally planning on sticking the temp guage on the skull but i see it will not come out as i wanted. So with that big space of nothing i will stick my guage there. I am also reinforcing bondo with structure and tapping for lights now that i know i have 12v :)
Okie, so I am back for a new update
sorry it took so long on this project. I have made headway on the prjoect evalving it to a new stage. I didnt take picture on some steps cause i didnt think it was nessary to document it all. Basicly i center my skull and used epoxy to stick it down. It normally takes 1 hour for the epoxy to harden but 24 hour is needed for the epoxy to fully cure.
right now i tooken part off an old and no longer running xbox360 with stock X clamp, yes i do know Rrod can be fixed but the board was ripped apart by a nuub who does not know how to manually take things apart carefully. He managed to rip the trace from the power all the way to one of the caps. so its for that reason its no longer fix-a-ble lol
Like i said i will be reusing some part off other consule
http://img854.imageshack.us/img854/4382/1006195.jpg
I took this off an broken xbox360 :)
http://img851.imageshack.us/img851/3120/1006196.jpg
Those knobs are what holds the heatsink down with an x-clamp. as you can see it seems to fit like a bud for a tube. And its mainly the reason i will be using this
http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/6807/1006197c.jpg
I didnt bother taking step by step shots on this. But i will explain
http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/3320/1006199.jpg
As you can see this 1/8 fish tank pipe fits very well on the ends. I am using clear pipe instead of frosted cause the clearity helps with the view of the foresent dye reacting against the UV led
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/5057/1006200.jpg
I will be using foresent dye liquid. But do not fear cause the ends will be glue tight and presure twist tested for leaks
http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/1364/1006201i.jpg
I will be using UV led and yes this will work.
http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/5046/1006202.jpg
**I have done the pipe before working on a helloween costume one night**
I used clear fish tank air pipe, green foresent dye and two UV led project name: Dark cyber
http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/3817/1025163.jpg
I used a frosted pipe, blue/green dye and two UV led. Project name: Joker cyber
http://img546.imageshack.us/img546/3786/1025171.jpg
I used masking tape where i wanted to build the bondo the heaviest.
like here on the underside of the mouth. I do not like how the mask goes straight down so i will be using leaning out more to make it look more of a blend look :)
http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/6306/1006203e.jpg
http://img860.imageshack.us/img860/4413/1006204.jpg
http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/6258/1006205s.jpg
The blue tape is to show where my end points as well as the most largest part of the bondo build up will be used.
http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/9676/1006207x.jpg
There are a few more update to come. I am sorry my update are a bite late.
One of my next coming update will be using an under structure for the bondo to build up on. I will be using scrap plasic-glass or lexsan. As well as new image of the pipe being used. I have a whole 50 pack of UV led :) those will not go to waist
Pepito01226 06-02-2011, 02:19 PM Update #6
I have filled the pipe with my rubber contact glue bought at walmart
http://img830.imageshack.us/img830/6389/1006210.jpg
As you can see it fills nicely in
http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/7357/1006212.jpg
Lol those xbox360 clamp bolts work nicely. I might use this ends on the shell
http://img863.imageshack.us/img863/9754/1006213.jpg
I am desiding on which of this three dye to use.
http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/4573/1006215.jpg
foresent test time
http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/4206/1006216g.jpg
Hmmm :/ that secondary green doesnt glow for anything that sucks
http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/973/1006218h.jpg
I do not know which color to choose from. I might use two to make a nice color blend
As you can see i am using Quad UV against dual blue LED :) works very well.
All powered by USB @5v with a dimer pot
http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/5730/1006219t.jpg
I forgot i had a lite of the dye left. this was a mix of green foresent and blue foresent. I might just go all green. I want to do a mix to make it blue and glow green
http://img706.imageshack.us/img706/5592/1006222g.jpg
http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/1419/1006223n.jpg
http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/5778/1006225.jpg
The glue needs a mini of 3 hour to cure to a rubbery hard bond. But because the mixture will have 70% rubbing alcohol to break down the dye to a transparent state, i will have to wait 24 hours and test a small sample for any leaks before i cap the ends with more glue and finally the LED.
Stay tune for more updates watcher ;)
Okie this is updte 6.2
I have deside to go with green and yellow to get the most efficent glow possable
http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/1605/1006229.jpg
Under the UV led you can see the dye is starting separate from the spong
http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/4525/1006231t.jpg
http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/8721/1006232w.jpg
Here you can see the dye is basicly bleeding out lol
http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/943/1006234z.jpg
After 30 mintue the dye completely take over
http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/9210/1006237m.jpg
http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/5585/1006239t.jpg
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/3444/1006240r.jpg
http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/4034/1006241x.jpg
Here you can see the spong is completely dye free. Rubbing alcohol 75%
http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/7921/1006243f.jpg
http://img864.imageshack.us/img864/443/1006244.jpg
http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/7019/1006246.jpg
Well i might have put together the tube way to early :/ But its only a test and i can always create another tube :)
As you can see the end where the UV sits has frosted over. It might be cause of the chemical reaction from the glue against the rubbing alcohol and dye mix
http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/669/1006248.jpg
http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/432/1006249y.jpg
You can still see the dye not fully mixing with the rubbing alcohol. This is cause the dye is water based. water dilutes the rubbing alcohol but never mixes. Like oil to vinger
http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/4894/1006251.jpg
UV test, i was using my old blue tooth charging unit since the voltage is about equal to 3.5 at 35mAmp.
http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/2638/1006255m.jpg
This is with flash on
http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/88/1006258.jpg
This is just 1 of the testing for the Tube. I still have to put the rest of the three together, to tops it all. I want to over sleeve and create a tube cover. Once the glue cures i will do a pressure test to find any leakage :)
stay tune watchers there more to come.
Pepito01226 06-19-2011, 11:52 PM Well been a slow june
Update #7
This time around ive been working between breaks to work on the ps3 cyber skull mod.
I have finished witht he tube but still pressure testing since 2 of the 4 line has had some leakage issue. Ran out of glue lol and bought another set at wally world (wallmart)
Well i had to remove the skull from the shell >.< since i forgot to wire the lights lol It happens when you loose sleep over work.
So i started to work on the eye, Attaching the LED to it.
http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/5233/1006299.jpg
Here I Have deside to test the eye out on my old bluetooth charger (3.2volt)
http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/3476/1006301i.jpg
http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/725/1006302j.jpg

http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/3739/1006310.jpg
http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/4894/1006311j.jpg
I deside to take One of my spare psp botton (X).. I was hoping to save the X icon but like the xox360 XYBA botton you have to be careful or you will drill right through :/ Sucks but ohwell
http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/2690/1006312a.jpg
http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/7759/1006313.jpg
The black light i will use on the other eye (Sorry it look blue-ish) :/

The botton infront of the UV LED
http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/908/1006315w.jpg
I took apart a psp thumbstick, Wasn't surprisingly difficult, Only a very thin piece of metal held the whole entire piece together.
http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/7363/1006318p.jpg
Here you can see the PCB is UV sensative, This is not painted :) Awesome
http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/7358/1006320o.jpg
Holdiong the Thumbstick over the UV LED, seems greenish i like but want to show more of the UV going through

http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/8554/1006322g.jpg
Here you can see i deside to drill a hole out to let the Uv LED glow right though
http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/9263/1006324.jpg
The 3mm UV fits nicely :)

My next project was Installing the Digital thermal reader. I Taped off the entire shell so i will not scratch the surface with debris
http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/5095/1006334f.jpg
continue to update #7.2
Pepito01226 06-20-2011, 12:21 AM update #7.2
Didn't have full room to fit the rest on the other thread so this is the continues
A test fit of the digital thermal reader
http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/2524/1006335.jpg
Test run of the digital temp gauge to see if i have it on the right side :)
http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/5002/1006336.jpg
With out flash lol, 77 degree fereinhiet :) Thats a cool confty temp especial where i am living
http://img577.imageshack.us/img577/3010/1006337m.jpg
Here i took out the thermal reader and placed the shell back on the ps3.
http://img121.imageshack.us/img121/8200/1006339n.jpg
http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/5552/1006340.jpg
( Since my ps3 is a 80gb, its a 2009 model i think which is the one of the first model not to come with a media card slot which is fine cause of the saved space :) )
I deside to tape over the area, this will help me virtuallly visably help me see my mark so i can cut :)
http://img857.imageshack.us/img857/60/1006341.jpg
http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/7506/1006342b.jpg
And my mark, it does look sloppy, I will fix it on my next post
http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/8425/1006343t.jpg
I have also tooken my multimeter and did alittle work while i wait for a client to come back at me with parts for there PC issue.
http://img541.imageshack.us/img541/9101/1006331.jpg
http://img121.imageshack.us/img121/3539/tapsv.jpg
Personally it sucks that there arent alot of people showing tap points of there ps3 consule. But doing research i can see why, sony always reviewing there consule so much it wouldnt make sence to show one tap point for the ps3 since not all ps3 are made equally :/
But I was happy to do the simple tap points :) And am excited to see so many 5v points
Okie so I had a small break today, car doesnt want to work :/ and since its near hurricane season the weather really sucks :) Which means i get to stay home and eat cereal and watch cartoon network... But i am going to throw an update
Update #8
Well like last post i took off the tape and restart a new line
http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/8946/1006344x.jpg
After some cutting, sandding and more cutting
http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/728/1006345.jpg
I slipped digital reader over the outer shell

Flash off, and its about the internal temp of my room LOL
http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/2032/1006357.jpg
I will be installing the tube lights, as well as wiring my own light and network light indicator on the left eye. I need to buy more bondo since im down from a pint to 7ounce and also need to place an order for UV SMD, Blue SMD and red SMD.
Till the next update watchs :)
Pepito01226 06-28-2011, 10:25 AM kie so there isnt much of an update and might not be much till mid july.
I have order some more material
Ive deside to order a set of this UV SMD 0805 :) This will be my replacement for the On and wifi and maybe some Blue SMD :)
http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/7374/bvpew2kkgrhqmokj8ewz9dt.jpg
This second set are some 3mm LED holder. I will be able to hold the Light tubes on the shell and skull
http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/1016/bzoosrwbmkkgrhgohdyejll.jpg
Due to some screwed up sircumstance i will be taking atleast acouple weeks off. :/ Also waiting for some time for my package to arrive. Till then i havent forgotten and i will try to post alot of updates when i can.
Hay :)
Update #8.2
Okie so I got the parts needed early Which is great! Now i can swap out the lights i wanted
But i got a sudden add in the mod
I was repairing a WII consule for a family of a friend. As i repaired and testing to see if the WII finally takes a game disc i was staring at the front gate of the WII and found it intresting that it flares blue and it hits me :)
Why can't my ps3 have the same Front gate light flare :3
It was GENIOUS!!
hahaha Anyways i've been lookign online for a front wii replacement part for days and finally i found something similar
WII front gate LED swap mod
http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/5200/kgrhqvlue3htdjhbibn1op8.jpg
What i need and need to buy
http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/9432/3642.jpg
As you can see the mod evolved alot as time goes on.
I will be ordering this and moding to add LED flares to the front face of my ps3
:)
UPDATE #9
So after much work from clients i seem to be down acouple of buxks :/ Ohwell
Anyways i finally got my UV SMD 0805 In the mail with my 3mm LED holder
Digging in to some SWAP's i took the entire system apart and started to swap the GREEN SMD for My UV SMD :)
One thing i think i should have done is bought two sets of SMD cause it turns out i needed 0306 which is .5mm smaller then the 0805 :/ But i managed :) and could not be any happyier

Pepito01226 07-22-2011, 07:58 PM Well been a rough 2 weeks lol, Busy and busier.
After some time I was finally able to get some work done on my ps3 mod.
This time on the shell cover :) YAY!
Well let start it off.
First off I hate to waist, Nothing needs to be waisted IF you recycle things properly
This was for a PC mod -.- it went totally wrong But! I saved it for a day like this :)
http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/9256/1006440z.jpg
I used a dimond tip cutting tool to start off the edge cutting
http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/9818/1006441.jpg
As always SAFETY FIRST! It doesnt matter what you do its SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY always buy and use the right safety material. ABS saftey glasses
http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/5504/1006442k.jpg
Its also smart to use A good industrial painter or chemical respirator with filter around plastic when cutting, filing or grinding. This Plexiglas has lot of different chemical's that under heat can turn them in to strong smelling vapor's that can be harmful to your health. Always remember SAFETY FIRST!!
http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/96/1006447o.jpg
This diamond cutting edge has been used lot and has noticeable sign's of wear -.- it took nearly 5min to cut 1mm Plexiglas Time to change :)
http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/9292/1006444.jpg
Ahhh, this will do the trick, Yes I know it more industrial to cut metal but since i ran out of diamond cutting wheel it will have to do
http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/7250/1006446ts.jpg
On my last couple of post, i said i will make some under support for the bondo to build up on.
Well, I wont bored you from all the shots of me cutting lol. I'll get to it straight
Well After cutting and messuring I will mod two of this right angel to fit better on the mod
http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/8876/1006448x.jpg
Just glueing the supports down wont help much. There needs to be a understruction to substain the strain of the bondo.
So i deside to cut a hole in the shell in which the plexiglas will sit in and be supported by the entire shell :) (IF YOU HAVE A WEAK STOMACH YOU MIGHT WANT TO TURN AROUND NOW)
http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/3088/1006449r.jpg
http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/4376/1006450.jpg
Well you can see how well the structure sits in the cut :) Yes i know the hole looks a little wider, But that is fine. I will be filling the hole with 2 in 1 glue to make a hard bond.
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/822/1006451t.jpg
http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/614/1006452y.jpg
Well the tops are a little to high, so i will be cutting them off
http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/2929/1006454.jpg
Here are some beginning shot of the first step to the final's
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/7549/1006459q.jpg
http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/2700/1006460s.jpg
http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/8374/1006461r.jpg
http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/9325/1006462p.jpg
I do not like to waste so i decide to recycle this piece's into structure parts :)
http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/3420/1006463.jpg
The entire piece's that i will need for the under structure
http://img810.imageshack.us/img810/8131/1006464.jpg
There will be more to come, But as i am backed up with more work It will be a slow start to finishing the shell. Right now i have the piece's still apart, I have not glue'd down the parts cause i will need to wait till i begin to bond. This will give me elbow room to work and if i run out of bondo i will simply get more later on :)
As for more update's. I Have order the gate for the Wii for the PS3. I will if needed plan out to widen the door "gate" so the rim sticks out. The gate has the felt on the inside so i can strip off the felt on the blue ray drive.
I will order some 0306 blue and red SMD for the HDD and NETWORK indicator.
I was thinking about what i will do for wiring. I have a couple plan's :) One which evolves around copper crafting tape. I have bought a 3meter roll for less then $3 way back before i decide to work on this PS3 mod. So far its been sitting in a mini storage drown. But now i have a use for it. I hope my plan comes out great :)
Till then enjoy I will be back and forth while i finish my work and projects
Pepito01226 07-28-2011, 06:38 PM AWESOME!
So after much rest, sleep and finally lunching cause sitting and waiting just sucks
I finally got the door gate mod for the wii which will be adapted to my ps3
So, i got exsited and cut the packaged open and WAHLA! It comes with a triwheel tool ^^ (Its not needed but still can be useful since i work on Nentendo products)
http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/5832/1006465.jpg
Close up of the Image, you can see the white dot in the center is the Green right angel SMD :)
http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/5021/1006468ek.jpg
The back here you can see the wireing sort of :/ (Camera had a strong flash, it glares almost every shot)
http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/2366/1006470d.jpg
Wow, so i though it all came together sound fused but here you can see it easily came apart :)
http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/7690/1006471.jpg
from here on all i have to do is figure the points and desolder :) (wire came off with a slight pull :/ will have to make a better solder joint then factory set soldering)
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/9230/1006475t.jpg
Well, I bought this with the wii gate mod. Its simply cool. This is a SMD polarity tweezers for the multimeter :) Great little thing that i got for $3 :) Ebay
http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/6459/1006478.jpg
Btw if you notice the small red dots. This is a marker for me since i have a very very very short and bad memory >.<
The dots is to indicate what polarity is Anode (+) from Cathode (-)
To anyone who needs to know the polarity of SMD, its a headache to find a easy cheat. Few people say to use a multimeter which is one reason why i bought the SMD polarity tool. But for those who can not get one you don't have to beat your head. You have a link5 (http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=595865) right here
Well.. that was interesting.. seems like after adding more flow (solder) to the polarity so i can suck and remove the SMD it actually fall off after a dab :/
http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/7392/1006481.jpg
A better view :)
http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/6528/1006485d.jpg
VIEWER HELP!
Well now comes the involvment of my views
The image belows are image of the 4 type of SMD led from 1206 to 0806
I want to know what you views think i should add to the gate mod.
http://img851.imageshack.us/img851/4576/1006484marker.jpg
The fallowing images show from top to bottom bag:
1. top of bag - UV smd - 0806
2. top of bag - Blue SMD - 1206
3. Top of bag - Red SMD - 1206
4. Bag - right angel White SMD - 0806
I don't know which one i would like to use for my mod. so having any viewer help will do. Please views comment on which SMD i should use :)
I will be waiting for your comments
Pepito01226 08-17-2011, 12:28 AM Well! its been an interesting ending July and starting august.
Sorry its been awhile since i've updated my post :)
the progress has been great in away
So since last i wrote i waited for some views to reply to a desion but i see no one wanted to comment
I went ahead and choosen 4. white rightangle 0806 SMD
http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/4089/1006501.jpg
This actually took some time to accomplish, since the line fell off cause of the shooty soldering job i wasnt able to mark down where or how the lines connected. so i had to test my connection. I actually managed to pop the SMD by overloading it with 300Mamp and 3.5volts.
http://img814.imageshack.us/img814/4676/1006506.jpg
Hmm well one good this is that they slaged the line, this gives me extra line to adjust and cut :) But i think it would look better if the line was more toute
http://img804.imageshack.us/img804/3416/1006507e.jpg
Well now, thats some bright SMD..test run to see if my wiring was spot on
Wow this things are BRIGHT!
With flash
http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/1623/1006510x.jpg
Without flash
http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/1188/1006511u.jpg
Well Now that i know the lights work, Its time i managed that lose wire better
Ahh there we go. Can't even see or tell there was a line
http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/671/1006516p.jpg
Better closeup :)
http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/623/1006517x.jpg
Well, before i close the case up i wanted to make sure i swaped out every LED i can.
This stock SMD will have to go!
http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/1720/1006522e.jpg
Harddrive SMD gone
http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/520/1006523.jpg
Network SMD gone
http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/4816/1006524.jpg
Hmmm, well seems like i ran out of 3060 SMD :/ And those 0806 UV SMD does seem to fit well.. So I wont have lights till i get some more blue SMD
One thing for sure, Once the system board has been removed, seeing the CPU/GPU and that crappy rubbery thermal paste isnt going to do well for my system from over heating.
So here i deside to clean off what i can from the GPU/CPU
http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/3656/1006528u.jpg
And introduce my own thermal grease :) ULTRA!!
http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/6934/1006531.jpg
Oh right haha back to the mod at hand
So i took off the front face and layed the front face of the gate from the wii
http://img844.imageshack.us/img844/9492/1006532.jpg
Hmm seems alittle perfict :)
Right
http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/818/1006534u.jpg
Left
http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/4103/1006535r.jpg
Test fitting the Light
http://img847.imageshack.us/img847/1045/1006537.jpg
and with gate face
http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/444/1006540o.jpg
Well the gate didnt fit so well, so i deside to remove the gate from the ps3 and maybe see if i can fit the one from the wii
Its very easy to take off, sliped a old rusty and dangerous exco knife and simply pop the tabs
http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/3271/1006541e.jpg
With face on
http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/997/1006547e.jpg
with face off
http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/6539/1006548z.jpg
Hmmm... yep, Didnt fit :/ sucks its just shy
http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/3406/1006549.jpg
After brain storming and 4 soda later i deside to cut the extra around the side of the gate...
Yep,...what was i thinking... i do not think well at 3a.m. HAHA
http://img580.imageshack.us/img580/8200/1006551.jpg
Well i see it still fits okie on the gate haha will work on the rest in the AF next day.
http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/258/1006552s.jpg
Next day.
I deside not to shot boring photo of this fallowing steps. Beside my camera battery died cause i forgot to shut it off and set it not to hybrinate at all -.-
I had alot of brainstorming, cutting, thinking, grinding, thinking, soda, thinking, lazy dinner, thinking, soda, thinking to get it finished by the next day when the camera battery would be fully charged :)
The after work shot
cont.
Pepito01226 08-17-2011, 01:25 AM well then lets continue
I grinded the face of the gate from the wii down to 1.74mm to have a tight space. Using my crafting rubber glue and cutting a slit to alow the access of the Light to hang down i managed to fit it all :)
http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/8905/1006554s.jpg
Well you cant tell here but the face is on haha
http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/5586/1006558ol.jpg
I had acouple fights trying to put the face on, it seemed like i was off by 2 whole millimeter but it actually turned out the line to the lights were in the way and was pulled off cause of the force. Again to cut it short i deside not to snap shots of that instead i went to the end
I couldnt find any taps on the board for the Light to react or FADE like i wanted it to. So i ridge it to the only source i saw that would react like i wanted the actual Disk loaded light. It sucked out alot of the main voltage since i had to chain them in series. It turned out what surprisingly awesome. Now you can see the UV and Blue LED But not so much the white -.-
http://img805.imageshack.us/img805/3331/1006569.jpg
http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/7667/1006570s.jpg
http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/1209/1006571p.jpg
Since im using 2.7volt the whites lights dont seem to bright.. but!
I did some digging from mod parts maybe something to help me load more voltage or something to give it the breather effect like the wii does
and cam across this
http://img849.imageshack.us/img849/8281/vu2pulse.jpg
Its a VU/pulse mod chip for multi system. Its programed with 5 mode including sound reactive, pulse, quick, slow, always on, off :)
I also plan to get something to connect my shell light to my case.
this also need to get
http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/206/coppertapeweb.jpg
This copper tape will help me with the delema of drilling through the case to drop in wiring for the shell or not to do that :)
With copper tape i run my lines from the hole, solder and then slide the shell on it ;) simple and fast
well till then have a good night all
Isn't ebay fun!
Update #12.5
Well, Ive been else working on few other mod including PC mod
I deside to work on prep paint for the shell, work on color schemer's
One thing i wanted to do is keep the color scheme with the LED colors
This does two thing. 1. avoid color confusion 2. bring the case and light theme together
Since I've been using UV (purple), Blue, Red LED I wanted to semi Blend that together in away that makes sense.
While shopping at my local LOWE's hardware store, ACE and True value
I picked up on a chameleon color shift spray paint. Its pretty cool that i can pick up something this especially on a limit budget
One of the issue i came across was actually reading directions lmao Oh boy what a goofball. It turns out its a transparent coat over the black base.
The good news is i don't need to use gloss black to pull off the color shift effect.
http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/5824/1006604.jpg
As you can see by both picture, i angled the camera and curved the surface of a cardboard. Yeah yeah i know those white lines were caused by birds for some reason trying eat the board
http://img825.imageshack.us/img825/793/1006605.jpg
I also managed to get purple chromium but as you can see, Doesn't come out so well :/ (Btw if you notice i used 3 media base two can not be seen through the purple but in black you can tell its also transparent coat)
http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/7828/1006609x.jpg
The other two base I've used. The can like look is silver spray paint while the light gray one suppose to be chromium :/ yeah in real life doesn't look anything like it suppose to. Anyways i went with the silver or that is I'm going with the silver lol.
http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/206/1006610p.jpg
I haven't been able to buy more bondo since issue keep happening and the cost of my computer build budget is well under limit but over my budget lol.
I will have to wait on parts before i finally finish the inside of the PS3 and shell, As of now i'm looking into other projects that have yet to been started. Planning and planning is what i need to do now for the rest of this. I want to get the shell tested by x-mas if not a week after new-years.
Only way to know if you all tune in to more update later
Pepito01226 09-19-2011, 03:20 PM Well that. Its been awhile hasn't lol
I see alot more view on my thread. alittle over 1,500 which is GREAT! i love to see more people viewing my mod
Hmm so where was I last time I posted.
Oh yes so i have order my pulse VU2 and copper type 1/4 @ 3meter. I await for my order to arrive from UK.
Since then i was talking about another mod. I wanted to budget and build a gaming PC but since then ive gone back and deside to finish one project before moving on to the next.
It is important to always finish what you start. I have that issue when it comes to projects. Incomplete is a sign of lazyness lol.
Hmm where to start on this post
Well then One reason why i did not install the pipe yet was cause i knew it would have leaked somehow :/
http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/1412/1006616n.jpg
But heres the thing, it really has not leaked. Instead the eithenal has well, evaporated.
http://img825.imageshack.us/img825/5345/1006617.jpg
I have deside to look up how to dye plastic. Its quiet intresting cause there are several ways but the easiest is to hold it in a jar with water and acetone with dye. Issue is i can not find any strong flouresent dye.
In the mean time i deside to work on more of the shell.
here you can see i started to bondo with the remaining bite of bondo.
http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/5760/1006639k.jpg
Its really intresting to see how my under structure fits in the image
http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/1239/1006641q.jpg
Really it looks so devilish
http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/5862/1006642m.jpg
I think its cause helloween is coming soon, i really get into it haha love helloween
http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/8344/1006644g.jpg
I factored that the pipe would have leaked in someway so i deside to use one of the direction on how to dye plastic months ago. Since i am still using none consitrated flouresent dye.
Here you can see the very dark pink. Since the chemical make of the flouresent dye is one part flouresent to neon coloring. acetone seperated them both and the outcome is water down neon with a thick slurry of flouresnet goo on the bottom. I sat the tips to the bottom and this is the outcome
http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/9859/1006645.jpg
Ive went ahead and tested out to see how reactive the pipe are to UV light
http://img825.imageshack.us/img825/5718/1006647.jpg
http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/7703/1006648q.jpg
http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/5218/1006649f.jpg
With flash on
http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/4739/1006651j.jpg
http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/399/1006652m.jpg
http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/2305/1006653.jpg
and again off with on
http://img851.imageshack.us/img851/9787/1006654w.jpg
http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/2931/1006655.jpg
http://img580.imageshack.us/img580/6167/1006656.jpg
Here i compared both pipes to a new pipe
http://img851.imageshack.us/img851/4482/1006657.jpg
In my eyes i see no difference between the both of them.
http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/4955/1006658c.jpg
http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/3505/1006659.jpg
So this far is what i have its been a rough couple or more so weeks lol.
As of some things i need to find a stronger dye. I plan on getting this
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/1065/btq2kkqmkkgrhquokieevnz.jpg
In the color i deside to get either "Artic purple" or "Fusha fire" for the color choice
http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/5430/glowverticalgallery.jpg
I still need to wire for the pulse VU2 and then finally with the copper type for the shell :) I hope to finish before newyears. But will see
Would love feed back from any watcher of this thread. Please do not be afriad. Have question or more insight please write to me.
Pepito01226 10-10-2011, 04:47 PM So The PulseVU2 chip came in mail a couple weeks ago. But there some complications that i didn't for see.
The chip here

Where i need to modify so i can solder the wire
http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/8073/1006669k.jpg
After it has been cut. Doesn't have to be perfect but has to be clean from any remaining shards and big enough hole

Well as i was finishing my wiring I was not able to, For One of the foreseen events had to due with the chip being defective. Doing my re-research Chips created from august 2007 to July 2009 have had a defective issue.
See the chip works nearly as intended, The chip is suppose to fade. dime and switch to VU mode. But as i wired the switch and did a test run on some LED the chip wouldn't fade, it dimes then shut off But while i had the switch pressed the chip would fade but will not switch through modes. :/
So i had to RMA the chip back to UK and now have to wait another week or 3 before i get another chip as a replacement.
So its gonna be another wait, I did receive my Florescent dye in the mail :) i had chosen Fusha fire and will fallow directions :) I have to plumb the pipe and then let the glue dry before i dye it
Till then Update #14.5 Will have to wait
Pepito01226 10-27-2011, 08:36 PM Well I finally got the mod chip back after RMA
And wouldnt you know :/ Another with the same issue. Im starting to think its me -.- this time around.
Anyways ive deside to throw off the switch and just let it fade and VU :/
I didnt take picture cause my camera was DEAD!
so instead i took a video of the end results.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zvm0P-Vybo
I will be doing other updates while i wait for help on acidmod
Enjoy the video and comment if any questions
Well i just got in contact with the seller, they want me to return the chip to get a complete refund :/
I declined as it took 1month to return and receive my mod chip, I prefer to hold onto the chip beside it semi working chip since the UV and Fade is working. Instead because of all the issue I'm gonna go and buy a pulsevu2X which is used on the Xbox360 and does not have the same issue as pulsevu2 which is used in Wii and in random other hardware. The installation is the same but because its used primarily for the Xbox360 It has an additional two Pad to solder for the controller or what not. So that in turn, I have not been able to go and buy more bondo. Which i'm trying to deside if i should now or wait till after i buy the pulsevu2x :/ hmmmmm
Pepito01226 11-23-2011, 01:21 PM Well after talking to the UK manufactor it seems like this chip is also defective :/ Which is the reason why i am having issue. I instead have deside to keep both the chip AS IS! since the VU and pluse works fine
I am instead moving forward slowly due to holiday related issue.
I have deside to work more on the top shell, I went to harbor frieght and found it cheaper to buy bondo at a bigger can size then it is at an auto store.
http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/6754/1026790.jpg

http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/7963/1026794.jpg
So i say stay tuned to more of my mod,I know its going alot more slowly then others has hoped. I am sorry for that the holiday season are very demanding to me, both clients and family related stress lol
I say to all Happy thanksgiving tomarrow
Merry christmas to all if i do not update more work logs through decemeber
And a very happy New years to all the yankee and UK and asian friends
:) Enjoy the goose and turkey and ham
Pepito01226 11-27-2011, 10:42 PM Okie well its almost december, Its been quiet a week lol
I hope all have, has, had a wonderful thanksgiving :)
Anyways I decide to use one of my scrap sort of working cool bought thing.
Its called EL wire (Electroluminescent wire) And its very cool and a great invension.
The one use was from an old mod i had, I know few have seen it on you tube, Tron Bag? No i wasnt the originator but i have don the idea and used it on my bag with awesome result, tobad i managed to break the connections inside by pulling on it to hard. I dont think either way that was the issue, i do believe it was the controller box.
Well here you can see the tip of the 3meter of El wire
http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/6910/1026795.jpg
Carefully cutting the trim or plastic sleeving away from the tip of the elwire, This takes some practice and time. Since there are 3 wire: 2thin wire and one thick wire cover in phosphorus.
http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/4199/1026796.jpg
One of the second reason to buy copper tape :) it works well for this kind of project, meding Elwire back together
http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/6946/1026797.jpg
http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/8647/1026798.jpg
Stripping back the phosphorus Doesn't take long, since its a clay like cover you just need to scrap it all off, what little remains can easily be burned off.
http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/4733/1026799.jpg
Finally Heat shrinking tube
http://img706.imageshack.us/img706/9143/1026800.jpg
Now to work on the controller box, Unboxing the board you can see a mini low vltage transformer, this is needed because the Elwire need to have constinit flow of current, To do this the wire has to be run on AC, since AC flip flop and changed current (positive turns to negative and negative turns to positive and then back again)
http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/850/1026802p.jpg
I wanted to install speakers into the consule, It turns out with out a drive (amp) i can not turn the eratic and low signal to hearable signal, well the mistake is learned and i was left with a speaker hole.
And i say there are no mistakes when you can find away around them :)
so now then i have the board apart i deside to take the top cover and sort of fit it inside the speaker hole. To do this i had to widen the hole more so the cover can fit nicely
http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/5015/1026804o.jpg
http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/9491/1026805.jpg
So here you can see i have a small hole where the bottom base of the cover will snap together, dont worry i will fill that in with bondo and then paint to match the case gloss black
http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/8224/1026806.jpg
I also plan on bonding the front so it blends well with the entire case :) Seemless.
http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/2578/1026807.jpg
So now i test out the EL wire before i put it in to the case :)
http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/4485/1026808.jpg
http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/6587/1026811.jpg
Well i at this time deside to shuve it all back in seeing it works nicely, As i was shuving the board back into the top case i didnt knowtist i actually poped a capacitor and this resulted in 12AC driving through an entire board :/
To make it short i ended up blowing the entire component and burning the board rendering it useless. Which means i will need to buy a new set of Elwire with controller box.
But which one to choose from :?
Go for El tape, which will work on eluminating the USB ports
http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/5316/eltape.jpg
OR
Go for another 3meter of ELwire which will work about the same
http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/4384/elwire.jpg
Let see which one i will get :) on ebay
Pepito01226 11-27-2011, 10:54 PM Well I went ahead today since i have to wait for my decition of either Elwire or Eltape I went ahead and fallowed more of my mod.
Im sorry its going to be a short one this time, i deside not to do a worklog on this one since its basicly about the same as the mod chip
But here where this one differ's
I decide to tap back into the Disc is inserted Light and so i can run acouple of light back to the gate Light to make it more intresting :)
http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/3301/1026839.jpg

http://img802.imageshack.us/img802/842/1026842.jpg
http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/6342/1026843.jpg
Just a quick mod to finish tonight :)
Please stay tuned for other mods later on in this Thread
Pepito01226 12-20-2011, 03:07 PM Well hello :)
Well since its christmas ive been spending alot more on christmas gift for family and friends and for myself.
I have decide to get this for the ps3 mod
http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/4384/elwire.jpg
And this for myself
http://www.pspworld.com/sony-psp/2009/06/08/white_psp_go_open.jpg
Ofcourse i got it used from gamestop since sony no longer supports the pspgo! since they clamed it to be "the worst product to come out of sony".
Yet i feel its the "GREATEST" cause of this factor: Easy to hack, fun to mod, 14GB internal support with 16GB external M2 memory stick support XP, Compact with a fun slide face, blue tooth installed so i can setup my ps3 controller and my bluetooth headset.
I do plan on modding this system AFTER i finish my ps3 mod :)
I have also got two other ps3 controller both are 3rd party or what U.S. would consider "knockoffs".
They actually and honestly work more and better then any official sony controller haha. I got one early in the mail and fully tested it out with a good set of mod on it
http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/8908/1026893.jpg
http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/3015/1026896.jpg

http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/4060/1026900.jpg
http://img607.imageshack.us/img607/4124/1026901.jpg
Anyways i know its alittle offtopic,
But ill be soon coming back to work on the ps3 mod, The weather is very wierd. So alot of what i want to do is hard because of humitiy and wierd wind factor.
Once i get the El Wire ill be using it on the mod :) Will be a nice under body glow touch for the USB
Till then
Merry christ mas viewers
Pepito01226 01-01-2012, 06:49 PM SO!
Happy new years!
2012, new year, new beginning and hopefully An endding to this mod :)
Anyways leaving off, I deciding to rework on the liquid tubes.
One thing i didnt do was actually read out the instruction on mixing dyes properly. For that reason the dye in the first leaked from the tube.
Ive went ahead using the old tubes as templates i went ahead, cut to size the 3sets of two different size tubes.
http://img811.imageshack.us/img811/8922/1001712v.jpg
http://img542.imageshack.us/img542/1262/1001713.jpg
Here i went ahead, glue'd the UV led lights in. I need to wait a full 24 hour before i can drop in the dye and glue the other end in and another 24hour before i can run test and look for dye leakage.
http://img862.imageshack.us/img862/1535/1001714s.jpg
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/6952/1001715i.jpg
In this image im using .2fluidounce container or 59.1Millilete container
http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/5017/1001716.jpg
http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/125/1001717b.jpg
In the container i mixed water with the dye fluid.
As you can see, the dye doesnt mix well with water. It takes some time for the dye to reach a fluid bottom.
http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/7083/1001719b.jpg
http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/3489/1001720.jpg
Here i had to shake the bottle for the dye to fully mix into the water. you can see traces
http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/8416/1001721l.jpg
Here i wired 240ohms and a UV led and connected it to an old bluetooth USB charger.

http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/5517/1001728h.jpg
http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/3284/1001730f.jpg
I went ahead and got my order in the mail, its perty awesome.
http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/2503/1001722h.jpg
http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/386/1001723z.jpg
http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/429/1001724k.jpg
http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/7818/1001725.jpg
Anyways this is the latest for right now, ill be back to updating more often now because the holiday season is over.
Pepito01226 01-02-2012, 03:33 PM Update #18.5
So i let the gule in the tube sit for 24hours now. It had time to harden
I went ahead and start to pour in the dye into the tube. It was alittle tricky because the fuildtube does not have a funnel mouth but luckly the tube was able to flex on its own and butt nicely on the mouth of the tube.
http://img857.imageshack.us/img857/7845/1001735.jpg
http://img860.imageshack.us/img860/7333/1001736o.jpg
I accidently spilled what was in the tube :/ so i had to go ahead and make another batch which wasn't bad but i dont remeber the amount of dye to water. If you notice the short one is alittle darker, because i added alittle more dye into the water. Or less water
http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/5448/1001739i.jpg
Anyways, this will have to sit for another 24hours before i run squeeze and stress test. I want to know if the tube are to rubbery to hold back any amount of pressure.
Will we wait :)
Update #19
While on christmas break and while ordering gifts for friends, i went ahead and order myself a cheap but very nice looking carbonfiber decal (vinyl)
http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/180/1001740s.jpg
It looks nice but in honesty i should have went with 3M Di-Noc CARBON FIBER FILM from mnpctech.com for few reason. But because i was over spending on gifts and had a very small self budget i went with the cheap vinyl and well, even though it looks real, it doesnt feel real and one main reason i should have gone with Di-Noc instead of vinyl is when i added heat from a hot gun the vinyl started to shrink and distort the carbonfiber look. Infact i had to do the decal twice because i ended up balling the ends from the black of the heatgun. Mind you i had it on low under 700degrees close to 120degrees ferinheit ofcourse.
http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/6580/1001741v.jpg
Well
http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/7694/1001745w.jpg
After the second time with the carbon finger. it starting to look nice.
http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/9329/1001746d.jpg
Its important for those who are decaling on any surface to clean it with soapy water and pat drying the surface to treat clean and remove any oil residue left from your fingers.
http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/2046/1001748gc.jpg
End result came out better then the first one. I still would have redone this again but because i went cheap i got cheap and a small sample. Not enough to rework this. Its okie im adding the Di-Noc to my "need to get" budget for late 2012.
Moving on!
Since i got the new Power box and Elwire cord i have tooken it apart and studied the layout and parts. I wanted to make sure it worked and if anything blows i can replace it.
I went ahead and droped in a resistor the first time running the lights, i think it was way to much resistance and the system wouldnt run, After droping ohms from 420ohm to 220ohms to 150ohms and 16ohms, it still wouldnt let it work, so i decide to take off the resistor and run it direct. I forgot im not running 1.5volts *Normal AA battery voltage*
http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/1463/1001749i.jpg
After a first time run :)
http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/1168/1001750v.jpg
Now without flash on
http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/3460/1001751j.jpg
Need to tuck the cords back in. Btw i left the quick connect/disconnect on because if i ever want to change the rope for another color(Blue) i can do a quick disconnect and adapt the new one in. Or if i want to leave both i can buy a quick connect spliter and run two or three lines :)
http://img847.imageshack.us/img847/1457/1001752v.jpg
Well now that i have the shell fully assembled that carbonfiber looks really nice and intresting against that pollished plastic shell :)
http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/4624/1001755e.jpg
While the system is on
http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/3928/1001757yr.jpg
Wow like looking at an underbody kit in a car haha
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/8962/1001758s.jpg
Oh hay I can see the USB connect slots now :) Huzza!
http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/1809/1001759o.jpg
Yeh again with the carbon fiber it looks really nice. I really had a hard time redoing the wiring for the diskdrive indicator. Really took me acouple of hours >.< and two burned fingers haha
http://img688.imageshack.us/img688/2721/1001765d.jpg
http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/4096/1001766s.jpg
Well back in its spot. Till i finish the top of the shell
http://img855.imageshack.us/img855/9956/1001767y.jpg
Well i hear tomarrow going to be cool finally right haha. Here in miami we been no less cooler then maybe 65 at night and ofcourse in the high 75 in the day. Thats in fiernheit's... i believe 35 in the day and 25 at night in celsius.
I wont be able to update my project till after the cool weather subsites since i am working with more bondo :) I still do not know what design to etch into the bondo for the skull. But I do plan on using what little scraps of vinyl carbonfiber and painting over that to match the color and theme.
With it i still have to plan out and drill out holes for the Liquid pipe so i can run lights :) I can not wait till finish.
Stay tune people
Gelson 01-04-2012, 02:14 PM Hello! Woud you sendme the pinout voltage of the power supply ps3 sim? Its not so clear. My psu is aps250
Thx:)
Pepito01226 01-04-2012, 05:27 PM Hello! Woud you sendme the pinout voltage of the power supply ps3 sim? Its not so clear. My psu is aps250
Thx:)
Hello Gelson, I wont be able to send you a pinout of a power supply for your slim. Its sad but because Sony revisioned all PS3 consule since 2007 and on wards its hard to get any pinouts on pacific boards from models. Infact there is alot of different board. And buying all the different model of PS3 to help out is way to Costly.
Im afraid you are going to have to learn about your own pinouts on your own Like I had to do. Best way is to buy if you have not or do not already have a multimeter. And while the shell is off just locating all the ground and testing out the main voltage. If it helps the boards and its power pinout is DC and might not be anyhigher then 12volts.
Pepito01226 01-12-2012, 11:44 AM Well, i have order a new paint can, i have never done it before especially through ebay. I hoped it wasnt a bad learning leason. But my paint came in today: 3days after i have ordered it.
http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Dupli-Color-Paint-Instant-Chrome-Enamel-Gloss-Chrome-11-oz-Aerosol-Spray-Ea-/00/s/NDAwWDIxMQ==/$(KGrHqV,!iUE6OoI5SNRBOpfP7DZ1g~~60_12.JPG
Im ganna test out this chrome paint compared to valspar gloss silver paint. I want to compare either one to how shiny lol.
Hmmm will update more as time goes on. It seems like the weather has finally heated up alittle. We reaching 70degree today and 56tonight :) confterable painting weather
Well i have made a quick squash so i can test out the mirror surface of both paints
Left: Silver Right: Chrome
http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/1098/1001806e.jpg
http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/9505/1001807a.jpg
I based coated the surface with mate black, I was suppost coat the base with gloss black to bring out a mirror like shine to the chrome
Even with the mate the chrome still has a semi gloss effect :)
One setback about using chrome and silver. I wont be able to use a clear coat, it tends to cut the gloss of both surface. So i am going to overcoat with a metallic color then clearcoat once the skull is ready to be painted
Pepito01226 01-14-2012, 02:49 PM I went ahead and took photo of my controller in a micro self made light box. Well more like stand haha.
I took the image from my D.A. account :)
http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2012/014/5/6/mw3_controller_w_i_p__by_hocico316-d4mcida.jpg
Pepito01226 01-20-2012, 04:38 PM I have returned :)
Well its been one frosted week or 3 ... Slowly the tempiture this week is getting warmer.
Anyways i was able to work on the shell
http://img813.imageshack.us/img813/2649/1010004.jpg
Aswell as getting the shell i am starting the mini Dye tubes after working and wiggling the test tube for leaks :) No leaks at all.
http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/1438/1010001.jpg
http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/4644/1010002u.jpg
I am not a good planning drawer and i love to "make it up as i go"
In honesty its a bad thing to do. But i prefer to change up some things.
I been scratching my head for along while wondering what i can do to the skull that will give me a cool impact.
One thing i do like is the alien like demon theme. The layer of skin over each other is a very awesome thing
http://www.filterforge.com/filters/2136.jpg
I went and broken the lay look to its basic line, for here ill be sanding down and step building the layers. To make a cool effect im ganna use thin cardboard and make like hawk nose then laying bondo over and sanding it smooth. this will cause my layering alien feel. I hope to mimic
http://img542.imageshack.us/img542/1594/1010005.jpg
http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/3802/1010006.jpg
http://img607.imageshack.us/img607/9531/1010007.jpg
This final image i will show for tonight will be of where the tubes will sit. Ofcoure after its positioned on the skull i will be bondoing around the tube to set it into skull.
http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/4179/1010009h.jpg
This is all for now. Till i return with more updates.
Pepito01226 03-16-2012, 07:07 PM So yeh i am back, My weather here has been clearing up. I would have assumed the weather to be alittle cooler and dryier this time of the year but thanks to what ever happened to mother nature the weather has went passed spring right close to summer lol.
Anyways i was not able to work much on my ps3 shell mod. I am contracted to acouple people repairing old xbox and installing underbody lights and interior lights in cars.
So with the small time limit i went ahead and again started to worked sidetracked to my ps3 controller
Last time i talked about my ps3 controller i might have mentioned getting my hands on some clear Action botton/D-pad. Well i did not order any Action/D-pad botton what i did order was clear trigger bottons.
Here you can see the set PLUS because the order took about 4weeks they throw in a nifty little pen :)
http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/731/p1060004r.jpg
Few things i did not use from what i got: the 3mm Green LED for instant, i would have not had any clearance in the shell Instead I went ahead and used the 0802SMD that ive been using since the mod been started. Second The 28Guage wiring also not used till after i throw in a micro switch WHICH i would have assumed the person would have thrown in since the order did take 4 weeks and he did not notify me or updated his website about backorder till a week after i placed an order. But its really understandable since molding to cast eventually gets used up. Scott im guessing the owner of the site did tell me its because they had to create new molding to create casting again.
But ohwell, He did assure me if i did want a switch i can order it from him... at $10 a switch i said forget it, Went on ebay and set a bid on x10 micro DTDP Slide swith for a mier $3 :) which shows how awesome ebay really is ;)
http://img818.imageshack.us/img818/4113/1000843l.jpg
http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/470/1000841d.jpg
Installing the Trigger had some issue, because the mold tends to contract about 10% it can create cast that are alittle bigger then the original ps3 trigger. Good thing i test fitted before i started to wire and assemble, But In order to make them work smoothly i had to pull out old mini filer and get to work, this actually took me less then an hour one weekend to file and fit and wire. The work was worth it :) end result are as photo'ed
PS3 controller on, Switch off
http://img546.imageshack.us/img546/769/p1140005.jpg
PS3 controller on, switch on (If you look under you can see i created a Holder for the controller, this is for the light box, with a dark background you wont be able to view it. Also if you notice right UNDER the "SIXAXIS" logo you can see the micro switch)
http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/1898/p1140015.jpg
I know you can only see the L1,R1 lights on, but i did that for a purpose.
The purpose to only have the top 1 on is so when the PS3 rumbles L2,L3 turns on with it :) demistrated on this photo
http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/1166/p1070004g.jpg
So thats mainly what i have so far, its only so i can keep my post and thread alive while i work through Spring break :)
The last photo is a pro shot i took. I dont have my mini light box anymore but i will eventually have to build a bigger true light box for my ps3 consule when i am do
