How many GB in a PS2 game?

I want to know how many GB is in an average PS2 game. This is related to an earlier question about PS2 hard drives for slim PS2. Someone told me a PS2 game rarely takes up more than 4.37 GB. So with a 200 GB hard drive I can have saved at least 45 games and up 50+. But I am more concerned with reliability, does anyone here recommend a brand for PS2 hard drives for Slim PSTwo?
Do you need mod experience to install and operate one bought online, too?

the older ps2 games take up to 4.4 Gb but the newer ones can have multi layers and can get up to around 8.8
