Retail sales of the PlayStation 3 topped out at 1.2 million units sold in North America over the holidays. What is suprisiong however is the PSP sold 1.4 million units and the PS2 exceeded 1.3 million units over the same time frame.
November sales of the PS3 hovered around 116,000 a week with December numbers increasing dramaticly. "The strong PS3 sales also further establish Blu-ray’s dominant position as the high-definition medium of choice for games and movies. Consumers are clearly responding to the expanding multimedia capabilities and a great line-up of over 200 games." Said Jack Trenton, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America.
While the consoles strong sales numbers are improving, Sony has hinted at a very profitable year for the console beginning in April 2008
